Hae Woon Dae (해운대)

Also referred to as Haeundae Beach

Hae Woon Dae or Haeundae is considered one of Koreas most famous and beautiful beaches. Located in the Haeundae district of Korea it stretches over 1.5km. Because it is so accessible from downtown Busan it is busy all year round, although it is most crowded during July and August. Because of the popularity of this beach the Haeundae district is considered one of the most expensive areas in Korea, second to the Seoul Capital Area.

It host many festivals because of its size and location. It is also among one of the most popular spots in Busan to view the New Year sunrise and make a wish. This is a very popular tradition in Korea.

In addition, the “Polar Bear Club” takes place on this beach each year. Participants bathe in near 0 degrees celsius water. This has been a tradition since 1988. This takes place on the beach just out front of the Chosun Beach Hotel in January each year.
